Alex Lightman is the organizer of the IPv6 Global Summit to be held in San Diego, California, June 23-27, 2003. Lightman is the author of the first book on 4G wireless, Brave New Unwired World: The Digital Big Bang and the Infinite Internet, published by John Wiley in 2002, and the CEO of Charmed Technology, which makes wearable computers. He is the founding director of The 4G Society and the first Cal-(IT)2 Scholar at the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology, a joint program of UCSD and UCI. Lightman has nearly 20 years of high technology management experience and, in addition, has experience in politics (including work for a US Senator), construction, consulting, the oil drilling industry, the renewable energy industry. He also created, managed and received accreditation for the Nizhoni Institute, a small school and college, and produced over 100 fashion shows featuring wearable and pervasive computing in twenty countries. Lightman (41) has published nearly 100 articles since 1999 in publications including Red Herring, Chief Executive magazine, Internet World, Intellectual Capital, and Field Force Automation. He has given over 100 featured or keynote speeches and was the co-chairman of the first business conference on 4G. In its 20th anniversary issue Chief Executive magazine recognized Lightman as one of ten "CEO's of the Future." Lightman is 1983 graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and attended graduate school at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. He has completed his second book, The Future Engine: How Science Fiction Advances Business and Technology and has started work on his third, The Ever Smarter World. |
